[ why was everyone a dog lover? Lucas doesn't see the appeal personally. (clearly he doesn't deserve this dog.)

Lucas opens the door, a German Shepherd sat on his hind legs obediently by Lucas' feet. not quite the Toto from the original story. ]

he'll not be here all the time. he has a schedule. [ some days with him, some days with Dorothy. who created this schedule? the dog. ]

well that sucks for us.
he's a good looking dog.

[ tetora even crouches down and holds his hand out to the dog, letting it sniff him first before giving the canine a good long head scratch. ]

isn't he dorothy's? the dog, i mean?

[ after the sniff inspection, Toto seems to approve of Tetora, encouraging him with a nudge to keep going. ]

yes, he is. how did you know that? i returned him to her after the natives brought him to me but he seems to want to spend time with both of us.

[ the dog approves. that is all tetora cares about, as he gives toto a more energetic scratchdown. ]

there's a story about a dorothy and her dog
they got lost to somewhere, i don't remember the details
it's a pretty old story

somehow i'm not surprised she becomes a legend. [ as well as the damn dog. ]

i've not heard of it. [ sounds like he's not part of the story either. nice to know. not. ]

i'm not that familiar with the story, so i can't really tell you what's in it.
what's dorothy like anyway?

i think dorothy gained the witch of the east's power when she killed her.

dorothy didn't want her power. it was a kill or be killed situation.

[ Lucas finds himself in those situations a lot. ]

ah, that makes sense. sometimes you have to kill someone even if you don't want to.

[ Lucas finds himself agreeing with that statement, nodding at Tetora. ]

i would have killed the witch without hesitation. and i would kill anyone who tries to hurt dorothy.
